About me

Having skipped my A’s at sixteen to study at ‘Hornsey College of Art’, I had to accept the LCP’s diploma course when extending my studies to graphic design. After this I worked for ad agency J Walter Thompson, Terence Conran’s design group and innovative London publishers Mitchell Beazley. On going freelance, I was thrilled when Tom Eckersley, answered my lecturing application, by saying he loved my stationery design. LCP ‘Head of Graphics’ Eckersley, was one of the foremost poster and graphic designers of the last century (Google him). Subsequently Tom offered me a regular visiting lectureship, on the same degree course that I wasn’t welcome to study on! Now let’s keep that one quiet.

Photography

My design and photography skills were learnt in their original pre-digital form. Slow, sometimes laborious, but wonderfully rewarding. Consequently I am forever in awe of the kit I have at my disposal. My main camera is a Nikon D4, which I use with either AF-S 14-24mm 2.8; AF-S 24-70mm 2.8 or AF-S 70-200mm 2.8 Nikon lens.

Graphic design

Amongst many influential clients, I have been commissioned by the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Design Council, the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A Museum. My graphic work has been shown in the Swiss graphic publication ‘Graphis’, The ‘Designers & Art Directors’ Annual and ‘Modern Publicity’. I was elected to ‘Fellowship’ status of the ‘Chartered Society of Designers’ in the mid 80’s. And I have been a member of the Chelsea Arts Club since 1985.

Photo courses

My one day photography courses in Suffolk and one week in Italy are designed to introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to the next levels of photography. Enjoyment is my key to improving photographic skills, whilst exploring and photographing some of the finest habitats in East Anglia and Southern Italy.
