Join me as I host monthly one day London Photo Courses in eclectic corners of London. I have designed these courses to introduce and develop both beginners and intermediates to creative photography. Enjoyment is my key to improving photographic skills whilst exploring and photographing some of London’s finest habitats. My next London Photography Courses workshop is at St Pancras on Sunday 7th September 2019: £125. The above gallery shows our visually rich shooting locations within this diverse, yet constantly evolving city. I also run landscape courses on the Suffolk Heritage Coast and one week Italian photo holidays from Campania, Italy.
Learning on London photo courses
My one day ‘London Photo Courses’ workshop includes tuition, demos and advice, to introduce and develop beginner and intermediate photography skills. Subjects covered may range from cityscape, architecture and interiors to learning to capture better portraits. Whether you use a smart phone camera or preferably an SLR camera, the relaxed workshop tuition will be in inspiring environments. These beginner/intermediate introductory courses, will include photographic tips for everybody wanting to improve their basic photography knowledge. My London photo course is tuned to developing your creative eye. How to make the ordinary extraordinary and occasionally even the ugly, beautiful. How to develop an understanding of light, when to use hard light and when soft light. Once you are developing a feel for the aesthetics, I will guide you towards taking fuller control of your camera. “I hear I forget, I see I remember, I do I understand”, is my London photo courses ethos.
Why I am well qualified to teach
I feel very fortunate in having gained exemplary teaching experience, and have used this to structure my London Photography Courses. I have regularly lectured at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts, London), London College of Communication and Norwich University of the Arts. This, together with being commissioned by some of the Uk’s most iconic organisations, has helped build and define my career. It has also been a source of inspiration for me, in developing my Italian Photography Course Holidays. Amongst many influential clients, I have been commissioned by the BBC, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Design Council, the National Portrait Gallery and the V&A Museum. My work has been shown in the Swiss graphic publication ‘Graphis’, The ‘Designers & Art Directors’ Annual and ‘Modern Publicity’. I was elected to ‘Fellowship’ status of the ‘Chartered Society of Designers’ in the late 80’s. I have also been a member of the Chelsea Arts Club since the late 80’s. Additionally my ski coaching and Alpine guiding experiences with both adults and children, has helped develop my organisational skills. They all got down!

A few student comments
Elaine Marie, near Chelmsford said of my London Photo Courses: “A very informative & fun day on your recent day course. I now can’t wait to get out with my camera to make use of this! Thank you Roland!”
Carly Barker, Stowmarket Suffolk said: “I attended a day course with Roland after I had been given a Canon EOS 80D for my birthday. Having had no photography training, I was completely outside of my comfort zone when I attended the course. However, any nerves I had were very quickly laid to rest when Roland welcomed me on the day. It became clear very quickly that Roland’s teaching experience, photography knowledge and artistic eye were a perfect combination to gain a good foundation of skills to put into practise. I had a great, relaxed and interesting day in a beautiful setting with a brilliant group of people. I have a new found love and appreciation for photography and I will definitely be back when I am ready to learn more!”
Steve Brown, Woodbridge said of my Italian photo holiday: “I recently returned from an extremely enjoyable Italian Photography Holiday Course in Campania, Southern Italy, and a world away from nearby Naples and the Amalfi Coast. Mornings and early evenings were spent photographing a spectacular blend of nature and historical sites as well as local life. And in between frequently retiring to an outdoor restaurant and pool for a leisurely lunch. I learnt a lot about photography which was why I attended in the first place, but that apart, I experienced traditional small town Italian life, for real. I was welcomed by charming locals and didn’t encounter a single non-Italian there all week, although we did experience ‘tourism’ when we visited the Amalfi Coast for a day. Highly recommend this holiday and would like to re-visit the area after learning some Italian.”
Everyone enjoys photographing friends and selfies and you can see some of my photo team here.
Cityscape, interiors, street scenarios, and portraiture are all potential subjects and you can read what my students say here.
